Perhaps you didn't get much sleep last night. Or for many, many nights. There's a reason the book Get the F#$k to Sleep has become a New York Times best seller. Why, then, would you not spend the five minutes you have for drinking coffee and try meditating?
Coffee is a good, quick fix. We get that. But meditation may be able to last longer. 45 minutes of meditation can be equivalent to 3 hours of sleep! However, you probably don't have 45 minutes. Even with five minutes, you can rid yourself of the frustration that can accompany exhaustion.
For this meditation, we ask that you sit rather than lie down. You know why. In a seated cross-legged position, or sitting in a chair.
Close your eyes. Pay attention to your weariness. Notice if you can feel it in your tissues, in your bones. Is there a particular area that feels more tired than another? If so, focus on this spot.
Imagine a light. Imagine that each time you breathe in you gather this light and send it to this weary area. This light is energizing, it is uplifting.
When the area feels bathed in light, move on. Address another area. Keep going until your time is up, or until you feel a boost.
Move forward with your day, and make sure to hit the hay earlier tonight.
