Instead of the frozen, “from concentrate” stuff, make a quick homemade version for your kids’ lemonade stand. They’ll avoid the artificial colourings and probably score a higher price point per cup. (Just tell your neighbourhood hipsters it’s homemade and all-natural).
If you plan to spike some for yourself (a little splash of vodka will go a long way – just sayin’), then it’s probably best to double the batch. Lavender is a calming herb used extensively in aromatherapy that can help induce sleep. So between that and the vodka – you’re in for a swell summer evening.
Makes about a half pitcher.
1. Bring the water to a boil in a medium pot. Add the honey and sprigs of lavender and simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes. Make sure to stir it regularly.
2. Once the honey is dissolved, turn off the heat and stir in the lemon and lime juice. Let it cool until it is at room temperature.
3. Using a spoon, remove the lavender, transfer to a pitcher and put into the fridge to cool.
4. Garnish with a lemon wedge, some lavender (if you have extra), and finish with a couple of ice cubes.
