Who would have guessed that the latest health trend would have us boiling bones? Well it has, and here’s how to make the most delicious & nutritious bone broth.
Our very own Tweak & Eat columnist, Niki Boileau walks us through the process. Good bone broth takes a while to make, but it won’t take a lot of your time. It’s a perfect Sunday activity that will yield you lots of yummy bone broth for breakfast all week.
For breakfast? Yep, you read right. This healthy sip is a great way to start the day because it’s loaded with minerals like calcium and magnesium plus it helps support the immune system, digestion and bone health. Not a bad way to kick off the day, right?
If you still need some motivation to slurp some bone broth, how about your skin? Bone broth is also reported to be great for your complexion and even reduce cellulite – thanks to all of that natural collagen, gelatin and silicon you’re pulling from those bones.
Follow this simple recipe that includes organic chicken bones (you can purchase these at a health food store from the deli or in the freezer). After it’s simmered for a few hours, you add vegetable ends (like carrots, parsnips, celery and onion) and some spices. Then, let it simmer for a whole lot longer before adding the last of the spices and straining your healthy hot broth.
One slurp of this potent health drink and you’ll be skipping your morning tea to sip bone broth instead.
