A Meditation for Hibernation

 :: A Meditation for Hibernation
If you’re staying in tune with the seasons, it’s only natural that you feel like hunkering down in the cold months.

Even the word hunker implies a nip in the air. Have you ever hunkered in the summer?

While you’re hibernating, you can use this particular time of year to look within in a more committed way. We like the practice of Jin Shin Jyutsu finger mudras.

Jin means human. Shin means heart. Jyutsu means art. Taking into account that energy can flow through the body like blood, we use our fingers as pathways to our consciousness.

Start this meditation by holding onto your right thumb with your left hand.

Take three breaths. Then take your left thumb with your right hand.

Your thumb represents worry. Let any worry come up to the surface.

Do the same exercise with your index finger, which represents fear. Your middle finger represents anger. Your ring ringer represents sadness. Finally, your pinky finger is connected to desires and dreams.

If you find that on a particular day, your mind is very focused on one area of thought/one finger, you can spend your whole meditation on that finger. Tune in deeply to your impulses and you can feel a freedom that comes from allowing yourself to be just as you are.

You might be amazed at how much clarity and calm arises from holding just one finger.
