A Little Bit of Transit Therapy: 6 Reasons to Get Your Butt On the Bus

:Stocksy: A Little Bit of Transit Therapy: 6 Reasons to Get Your Butt On the Bus
If public transit has taken away the calm, cool and collected version of yourself, there’s a way to grab that person back.

We do realize that some cities have better public transit systems than others. Even so, we’re here to tell you to jump on the train, bus or horse-drawn carriage and let the commute be the “you” time that you so deserve.

Consider this your transit therapy:

1. The Meditative Quality. Use this time to reflect. In the literal sense, as you look out the bus or train window you can gaze outward and inward simultaneously. You can observe others and yourself at the same time. You can take a deep breath and you might even have time to do a guided meditation. Gee, we wonder how you can find some great guided meditations?

2. Wake Up. If your morning routine involves a string of frenzied activity, you’re not alone. If you want to make it even worse, arrive to work soon after you wake up. Rather than getting flustered, give yourself time. Your morning commute is your chance. Grab a coffee and a muffin and take a seat. Wake up slowly, not in a panic, and rock the day ahead.

3. Wind Down. If you’ve had a bad day at work and are feeling grumpy, this is the perfect time to chill out and diffuse. If you don’t get time to leave those feelings behind, you’re in danger of bringing them home. Winding down during transit time can dissolve a sourpuss attitude and make you ready for the evening ahead.

4. Alone Together. If you work in an office by yourself, or are busy interacting with people all day, this is the perfect opportunity to be alone among others. It’s a choose your own adventure sort of scenario. Do you want to strike up a conversation with a sexy stranger? Or do you want to put your headphones on and zone out to TED Talks? This is a chance in your day to give yourself exactly what you want.

5. Catch Up. Do you always wish you could get “one more thing” done? Procrastinators, jump on the bus. If you have a long commute to work or school, it’s a prime opportunity to get prepared. It gives you more chances every day to succeed, whether it’s in an early morning meeting or during exam time.

6. Eco-friendly. You know this one, but it’s true. And we love the earth. Reduce your carbon footprint.

If you stay focused on the destination, you may be making your mornings more rushed, stressful, and less productive. Bring back the journey. If you’re a person with a commute in the morning, consider yourself lucky. The geographical gods have just given you a reason to sit and chill before and after work every day.

Happy bussing!
