The Sparkling Bitter Sweet

:Kris Osborne: The Sparkling Bitter Sweet
With the mayhem of the holidays, it’s easy to see how taking the best care of ourselves can fall easily by the wayside.

It goes without saying that sipping a green juice, moving your body, and getting some much needed zzz’s are some of the best first steps toward honouring our bodies. But since we can’t make you eat your greens, go for a run, or get into bed an hour earlier, we’re offering a compromise that will help you to feel your best in 2015.

When the desire for a cocktail arises, forgo the rum and cola for a super vitamin sipper. Fresh oranges, lemons, and the vibrant sprigs of lemon thyme are loaded with Vitamin C, so short of sipping on a green smoothie, The Bitter Sweet is a top-notch drink choice.

The bitterness of the Campari nicely balances the sweetness of the orange juice and honey, the sourness of the lemon, and the bright pungency of the lemon thyme. Topped with a sparkling wine, it’s a lovely (and ultra pretty) effervescent sip that’s perfect for ringing in the New Year.

The Sparkling Bitter Sweet
Serves 2

2 sprigs lemon thyme, plus 2 small sprigs for garnish, optional
4 navel orange wheels
2 lemon wheels
1.5 oz Campari
½ oz raw honey
8-10 ounces chilled medium sweet sparkling wine

Muddle the lemon thyme, orange wheels, lemon wheels, Campari, and honey in a cocktail shaker until the citrus has released all of its juice and the thyme is bruised and fragrant. Add ice and shake for 10-15 seconds. Strain into 2 champagne glasses. Top with sparkling wine and gently stir to combine. Garnish with a small sprig of lemon thyme.
