:J. Wolf Hardin: The Ancient Herb That Clears Your Mind

Ashwagandha means “the smell of a horse” in Sanskrit.

Thankfully, that’s just the literal translation. What it really suggests is that this vital Ayurvedic herb imparts the vigor and strength of a stallion to anyone who ingests it. That, we certainly don’t mind!

One of the unwelcome byproducts of aging is a tendency towards “brain farts”. If a knowing smile has crept up on your face then ashwagandha is for you. As with most herbal remedies, don’t expect a quick fix. It will gradually clear your mind and thwart those ‘senior moments’ by protecting your little grey cells from the damaging and stressful effects of our modern life style.

Tapping our fingers and gritting our teeth during traffic jams, waiting impatiently for the elevator, standing in line at the grocery store – you get the idea of what can stress you out. Ashwagandha is your green light as ingesting some of this herb can alleviate stress.

How to use it? It can be found in capsules in health food stores and the usual recommended dose is 600 to 1000 mg, twice daily. You can also enjoy a teaspoon of ashwagandha powder into a healthy fruit shake or mixed with milk before bedtime. Sweet dreams as this super herb will also help relieve insomnia.

And while you’re in bed, you may enjoy a little extra something before you pop off to dreamland. Yes, this herb has sexy undertones. Slip on something slinky as this herbal powder enhances sexual potency in both men and women. Remember it gives you the strength and vigor of a stallion! So make sure that your other half is enjoying an ashwagandha-spiked drink as well.

Strawberry-Banana/Ashwagandha Smoothie

8-10 sliced organic strawberries
1 large ripe organic banana
1 Tbsp agave syrup
1 tsp ashwagandha powder
½ cup ice cubes
¾ cup kefir or almond milk

Blend all the ingredients until smooth. Pour into a tall glass and enjoy.
